Description

Our research intends to further develop the model of the bicycle. Specifically, to understand how changing tire properties will affect the stability and handling of the bicycle as a whole. Some of the operating parameters of the tire include: inflation pressure and load; while properties to be variated are tire width and tire composition. Data will be collected of forces exerted between the tire and the pavement. In the future, the goal is to also develop a model of the tire. A model will allow properties of tire design to be predicted through a mathematical simulation rather than physical testing. Input of construction coefficients into a successful model will yield behavioral trends. This will ultimately allow for design property optimization and lower associated development costs.
