Description

When looking at one of the environmental issues that Wisconsin is faced with eutrophication is one at the top of the list. Eutrophication happens because there is an excess of nutrients in a body of water from stormwater runoff. To try and mediate this problem constant monitoring of the phosphate levels needs to be done, but to do this takes time and can be very expensive. So, the purpose of this project is to have a way of determining how much phosphate is in each sample without having to go to the lab and analyze them. This would reduce the time and effort taken to monitor certain aquatic environments. In this study, we will evaluate electrical conductivity of engineered porous materials and evaluate these materials for fabrication of more selective electrodes for sensing phosphate.
