Description

The central purpose of the research is to investigate the effectiveness of MIDD0301 as an asthma treatment. This research is important to find a benzodiazepine that has limited brain absorption. The benzodiazepine that is being synthesized is MIDD0301. This compound is used for asthma treatments. This protocol involves stirring a solution of 2-amino-5-bromo-2’fluorobenzophenone with Boc-DL- alanine, dichloromethane, and dicyclohexylcarbodiimide overnight. A TLC was taken, and the byproduct was removed by filtration. TLC is thin layer chromatography which involves a technique that separates mixtures to see if a product was formed. The organic layers were concentrated under a rotavapor machine, and that residue was titrated and washed with hexanes. A rotavapor is a device used to remove compounds by evaporation. Then it was finally dried under vacuum. An NMR was then taken to look at the accuracy of the procedure and purity of the product. NMR stands for nuclear magnetic resonance and uses a strong magnetic field to observe the nuclei of a compound. The NMR will help us determine if there are any contaminates in the final compound as well as what the contaminates likely are. For this research, my anticipated conclusions are that the product will form with high purity with no byproducts or contaminates. The overall implications of this study are to help those with asthma. We should care because asthma affects so many people throughout the world and these possible medications could help those suffering from this diagnosis.
