Description

Over the past five decades, since the development of computers and television, the demand for instant access to knowledge, entertainment, and communication has been a driving force in the creation of newer and more advanced technology to facilitate these outcomes. The fast-paced growth of WEB3 technologies such as Bitcoin and the use of the internet to communicate around the world has prompted the advancement of the Internet of Things and the Metaverse to further scientific research on clean, renewable energy. From engineers modeling wind turbines in real time through Digital Twin technology to researchers using machine learning to model smart cities, it is not difficult to see why the IoT and the Metaverse have been used to focus on renewable energy sources. The official definition of the metaverse is: ‘a single, shared, immersive, persistent, 3D virtual space where humans can experience life in ways they could and could not in the physical world.’ This technological entity, along with digital twin technology and the IoT, have played crucial roles in the pledges made by Amazon, Google, and Meta to become net-zero by 2025. This research project focuses on the applications of the Metaverse, Digital Twin technology, and the IoT in the advancements of the renewable energy sector.
