Description

Social media companies use algorithms to notice the mental health status of young adults. By utilizing a Youth Advisory Board, it presents a unique opportunity to gain multiple perspectives on the target audience. We have assembled a Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for the Milwaukee Youth Wellness Initiative on Technology (MYWIT), comprising of high school students from communities of color in Milwaukee. From the information and feedback gained from the advisory board, we hope to gain a better understanding of the implications of non-medical artificial intelligence with adolescents and social media interventions with machine learning chat bots. This board is also designed to better understand and address the issues of inclusivity and bias within the underrepresented communities of color. This advisory board is a year-long program that meets bi-monthly. From this, we hope to gain better information on adolescent mental health, social media, and artificial intelligence being used to provide mental health resources.
