Description
Through the collaboration with guest artists Anya Kivarkis and Mike Bray, our project sought to utilize digital fabrication tools available at the Digital Craft and Research Lab to improve the efficiency and accuracy of traditional metal smithing and sculptural projects. We modeled and CNC milled a series of conforming dies for hydraulic die forming a series of gem forms. We also performed a series of technical investigations for optimizing the edge quality of cut acrylic on a CNC router. Although we worked through these techniques specifically for Kivarkis' and Bray's current projects, the processes could easily be recreated for other artistic practices.
