Description
Personal health records (PHR) could be a useful tool for managing one's own medical history. However, the adoption of PHRs can prove difficult on an individual level. Computer technology has become extensive in the realm of mobile computing for daily tasks, and as such, should demonstrate considerable usability. This research addresses behavioral and interface related hindrances pertinent to the management of personal health information. Examining how people might make better use of PHRs by considering the challenges and benefits of using them, specifically through mobile technology, can greatly impact how an individual maintains their own medical data. This research experiments with the development of a new Android application that provides access to Microsoft HealthVault (HV), a web-based PHR, and demonstrates how a user can include additional health management tasks for further functionality and ease of use. By addressing the usability of mobile technology and PHRs like HV, we can find a means of making PHR use convenient and accessible.
