Community-university partnerships and community-based participatory research (CBPR) are becoming an increasing trend among higher education institutions. CBPR has been publicly and privately utilized as an incorporation of community participation tactics to address highly complex systemic problems, such as houselessness. Despite increased collaboration between community organizations and higher education institutions, interrogation of the long-term impact of these community-academic partnerships is under-researched and represented through academia. Many community-academic partnerships have begun assigning the role of ‘bridge persons’ within these partnerships to improve their long-term impact. Previous research has yet to inform on the nature of this role and its contribution to sustained positive impacts within communities and organizations. To address this gap, this research will describe the roles of a bridge person through an analytical and integrative evaluation of existing literature and personal experience through a community partnership I am involved with through the Community Leaders Internship Program (CLIP). I intend to highlight the unique role of bridge persons and how they act to improve collaboration and connection within CBPR.
