Description
Voices of Gun Violence (VGV) is a an interdisciplinary, community-based project that provides a space for residents of southeastern Wisconsin to share their stories on gun violence. VGV uses qualitative research by conducting phenomenological interviews that are recorded and transcribed. The stories are analyzed revealing a wide variety of gun violence experiences. VGV has archived stories of gun violence that have impacted the community through homicide, domestic violence, neighborhood shots, robbery, suicide, bar/club shooting, domestic terrorism, and police brutality. Stories are shared on the project's website, which offers a living archive that allows the community to understand the multidimensional experience of gun violence. Over 60 stories have been shared on the website. Storytellers are not limited to victims and loved ones but include perpetrators. Implications of this project will be discussed and future directions identified.
