Ethics Statement

Field Notes: A Journal of Collegiate Anthropology is committed to maintaining best practices in all ethical matters. As such, the editorial board’s most important responsibility is to prevent unethical research and publishing practices, maintain the highest standard of academic honesty and integrity, and provide an inclusive environment for our authors and readership. Therefore, we will not tolerate any form of mistreatment of human subjects in experiments, plagiarism of any kind, disclosure of personal information, submission of another person’s academic writing, or the submission or publication of any article that is disrespectful to any gender, sex, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, or religious group. In addition, the following must be adhered to by all persons involved with Field Notes: A Journal of Collegiate Anthropology.

Editors:

Must accept/reject all submissions based solely on academic merit without regard for the identity of the author or their race, gender, ethnicity, religion, etc.

Must evaluate all submissions for originality of content.

Must evaluate all submissions for proper citation of sources.

Must evaluate research done by submitters and request IRB approval as needed.

Must evaluate all submissions for offensive language or content.

Must commit to maintaining confidentiality for all submissions.

May only discuss submissions with other editors or the Field Notes faculty advisor.

Must meet in a private location when discussing submissions to ensure privacy of authors and maintain academic integrity.

May not submit an article to Field Notes during their tenure as editor.

Peer Reviewers:

Must commit to maintaining confidentiality for all submissions that they review.

May not discuss submissions that they review with other peer reviewers.

May only discuss submissions with editors or the Field Notes faculty advisor.

Must evaluate all submissions for proper citation of sources.

Must commit to reviewing all submissions objectively and based on content.

Authors:

Must obtain IRB approval from their affiliated institution for any submission that uses human subjects for research or experiments.

Must certify that their submission is entirely their own work.

Must certify that their submission has not been previously published.

Must not submit the same material to more than one journal at once.

Must certify that all sources are properly cited at the time of submission.

If an author discovers any inaccuracy in their publication at any time after submission or publication, they must bring this to the attention of the editors.
